Frequently Asked Questions

Should I enroll my child in kinder soccer, recreational, or competitive soccer?

Kinder soccer is for children that are in kindergarten and are at least 4 years old by August 1 st prior to the start of their kindergarten year. If a child is 6 years old and still in kindergarten, the child’s size, athletic ability, maturity and timidness will determine whether they will be placed in kinder soccer or recreational soccer. Whenever possible, children will be placed with others of the same grade level.

Recreational soccer is for children that are between the ages of 6 and 14 years old and have very little or no soccer experience at all. They must be in first grade and be at least 6 yrs old by August 1 st prior to the start of their first grade year. For the older children, if there are enough registrations to field a team in that age division, children can play up until they are 14 years old (they cannot be 15 before August 1 st of their current school year).

Competitive soccer is for the child with soccer experience that would like to play in a more competitive atmosphere with more emphasis on advanced team tactics. No players under the age of 10 years old are allowed to participate in competitive soccer according to Oregon Youth Soccer Association guidelines. Competitive soccer requirements dictate that a player attend a tryout and be selected on an age appropriate team.

What age groups does TRSC offer play for?

We have teams for players age 4 and up.

Players must be at least 4 years old by August 1 to play. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Does my child need playing experience?

We accept children of all playing abilities. As this is recreational soccer, emphasis is placed on having fun and learning soccer.

What is the deadline for mail-in registration? If registered late will a player still be able to play?

For the Fall season, it is July 19 th. For the Spring season, it is after Feb 23 rd. After that there is a $10 late fee and players are placed on teams only as space is available on a first come first placed basis. The fastest way to be placed on a team if registered late is for the parent to coach a team. Refunds will be issued if players are not placed on a team.

When are practices?

Practices are usually in the evening, after school and work. Each coach sets the practice time and place that is convenient for them (one of the reasons to coach!). Typically, the youngest players practice one or two times a week, for 45 minutes to an hour. The older kids usually practice 1½ hours, twice per week.

How are players assigned to teams?

Teams are formed according to age group and by geographical area whenever possible. Teams will be gender specific unless not enough boys or girls register to make separate teams in any one division. DIVISIONS may be combined if not enough players register to form gender specific teams. Players who are older or younger for their grade may be given special consideration and may be assigned to a division other than their grade appropriate division.

My daughter wants to play on her friends’ team. May we make a request for that?

Teams will be formed by geographic boundaries of elementary schools whenever possible. Requests for specific teams or coaches may be made but placement on the requested team is not guaranteed. Requests may be made on the registration form.

When will we hear from my child’s coach?

Coaches receive their rosters approximately 3 weeks before the start of the season. If you haven’t heard two weeks prior to the start of the season, please call 261-9210 or email the kinder-soccer coordinator.

My neighbors are already practicing! Why haven’t we heard from our coach?

All coaches are volunteers and some just like to start earlier than others. We ask the coaches to make contact with their teams by early August to set up times for a team meeting and practices. If you have not heard from your coach by mid August, you can call or email the club and we will give you the name and number of your coach so you can call him or her and offer your help in getting started.

What is the difference between competitive soccer and recreational soccer?

Registration for competitive is the same as for recreation. The difference is that players who wish to play competitive must participate in the try out that is held in May and November. When a child reaches the U12 age, there are opportunities to play competitive soccer or to continue with recreational soccer. Competitive requires a much larger commitment of both the player and parents in terms of time and money.

Do I have to volunteer?

This club is made up entirely of volunteers. All parents are expected to volunteer in some way. For those that don’t find the time, a donation to our scholarship fund will be accepted for that season.

What is your refund policy?

Refunds are issued to any players who were not placed on a team.

We know someone else who would like to play. How can they sign up?

You may take them a registration form and have them return it with the fees no later than July 19 th for the fall season and Feb 23 rd for the spring season. After that, they will only be added on a space available basis and there is also a late fee. Additional forms are available at elementary schools and libraries in White City, Gold Hill, Central Point and Eagle Point or it can be downloaded here.

Will there be team pictures ?

We arrange for professional photos each season through a professional studio. The time and location will be announced to your child’s coach.

How do I become a referee?

Each season TRSC holds referee clinics. For more information, contact the Referee Coordinator.

Do I have to have experience to coach?

We provide training and support for our coaches. You do not have to have soccer experience but you do need to work well with children. The most important consideration is if a person cares about the kids enough to do their very best.

How can I contact the club?

You may call TRSC @ 261-9210. You may also go to our web site: www.tablerocksoccer.com and click on board members. There you will have access to board member email.

Where is your club office?

There isn’t one. The club is a volunteer, non-profit organization. We do not have a brick and mortar building.

What is the foul weather policy?

Although soccer is an "all weather" sport, there are times when it is unsafe to play. These are usually dictated by the conditions of the field. In cases of lightning, sever rain or rain combined with cold temperatures, games and practices may be postponed or canceled. If in doubt, go to the field.

What if it is raining the morning of the game?

Games will often be played as scheduled, even in the rain. If you haven’t received a call from your coach canceling the game, proceed to the field.
